The visit of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the United States of America, address at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly filled the hearts of our compatriots with a feeling of boundless pride.
The United Nations is the largest international organization that unites 193 countries. The General Assembly is its main body. World leaders gather at the session of the General Assembly, every minute counts because of the large number of participants and events. Therefore, the most important issues of international importance are included in its agenda. More than 170 issues were on the agenda of the 72nd session of the General Assembly.
The address of the Head of our state was distinguished by the content and significance of issues raised in it. Despite its brevity, it covered the most pressing issues of our time: reforms in Uzbekistan, issues of democracy, human rights, youth, religious tolerance, international security, regional cooperation, ecology and others.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that profound reforms are being implemented in Uzbekistan, protection of human rights is being intensified, broad freedom has been created for international relations, a new image of the country is being formed. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan considers the region of Central Asia to be as the main priority of its foreign policy, determined to engage in dialogue, constructive interaction and strengthening the good-neighborliness. The Head of our state noted the so-called exit visas as “an absolutely outdated legacy of the past”.
Everyone is talking about the idea expressed by the President of our country “The human interests come first”, “The people must not serve the government bodies, rather the government bodies must serve the people”, “The richer the people are – the stronger shall be the state”, proposals on development of the UN International Convention on the Rights of Youth, the adoption of a special resolution of the General Assembly “Enlightenment and religious tolerance” aroused great interest.
The participants listened attentively to the speech of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which was broadcast live via UN channels. Journalists who were present at the media center of the organization’s headquarters, listening to the address, took notes from the speech. The President of our country has appealed to communicate the truly humanistic essence of Islam to a broad world community. Informed about that the Imam Bukhari International Research Center in Samarkand and the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent are being established in order to preserve and study the richest legacy of our great scientists and thinkers, including Imam Bukhari, disseminate his teachings on enlightened Islam.
After the performance in the hall of the session, the applause did not abate for a long time. The Chairman of the session, the heads of states congratulated the President of our country, hurried to express their impressions.
Thus, the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted that before any head of state, standing on the UN tribune, did not defend Islamic values, did not mention the name of Imam Bukhari, as the President of our country did.
Within the framework of the session, another important event for our country and people took place. A maquette of Registan Square was installed in the United Nations building.

It is profoundly symbolic that this exhibit, which is a visiting card of Uzbekistan is installed in one of the most prominent places of the UN Headquarters – in the passage between the halls of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, said the Head of our state. In our country – one of the cradles of human civilization – science, culture, trade, architecture and craftsmanship have been developed since ancient times. In Samarkand, located in the center of the Great Silk Road, people from all over the world lived in peace and harmony, Registan became a unique symbol of this ancient world-famous city.
The maquette of Registan Square is made by skilled craftsmen of our country, decorated with precious metals and stones. Now everyone working in the United Nations, a participant of the events held here, can admire a “part” of Uzbekistan, which is the hearth of civilization from time immemorial.

Uzbekistan became a member of the UN on March 2, 1992. Today, a number of structures of this organization are operating in our country. These are the World Health Organization, the Organization for Education, Science and Culture, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the Children’s Fund, the Population Fund, the Development Programme, the Office on Drugs and Crime and others.
In June this year, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres visited Uzbekistan.
On September 19, 2017, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, at the UN Headquarters in New York. Informed about the ongoing large-scale reforms within the framework of the Development Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021.
António Guterres noted the profound content of the Statement of the President of Uzbekistan at the 72nd session of the General Assembly, emphasized that the initiatives forwarded by the Leader of our country are important and timely. He assured of his readiness to promote their advancement in the international arena.
The Secretary-General highly appreciated the concrete steps taken by Uzbekistan on expanding and deepening the regional cooperation, as well as the country’s assistance in reconstruction of Afghanistan. He assured to undertake further efforts on promotion of the convention on the use of water resources of Amudarya and Syrdarya, drawing attention of the international community to the issue of mitigating the consequences of the ecological catastrophe.
A thorough exchange of views on promising areas of cooperation took place at the meeting.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev also met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde, the President of the World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim, held negotiations with the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev and the Prime Minister of Georgia George Kvirikashvili on further development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
All meetings lasted longer than was stipulated by the protocol, which is explained by the saturation and capacity of the negotiations.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the heads of the leading companies of the United States. The meeting was attended by Chairman of the American – Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce Carolyn Lamm, President of General Electric Company Ron Pollett, President and CEO of Honeywell PMT Rajeev Gautam, Vice President of CNH Industrial Naderni Steve, President of Deere & Company James Field. Introduction of market mechanisms of currency circulation in our country, elimination of various obstacles in the sphere of trade, further improvement of business environment and the investment climate were emphasized at the meeting.
Issues of further strengthening of relations between businesspeople of Uzbekistan and the USA were discussed. Mutually beneficial areas of partnership were offered.
On September 20, Uzbekistan – US business forum was held in New York within the framework of the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the United States. It was attended by more than 100 executives of the leading US companies.
Participants of the forum discussed specific investment and trade projects of mutual interest, agreed on joint activities for their practical implementation. As a result of the event, documents for a total amount of 2,6 billion dollars were signed.

The President of our country spoke about the importance of the Strategy of actions on five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, the Concept of administrative reform, changes in the judicial and legal, financial spheres, in the field of small business, tourism, medicine.
It was noted that a great work is being implemented in our country on development of science and education, training modern personnel. The essence and significance of the state youth policy, activities of the Union of Youth of Uzbekistan in ensuring the rights and interests of young people were considered.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev urged our compatriots to be involved in large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan, to direct modern knowledge and experience on the way to its development.
At the same time, we cannot say that potential, knowledge and strength of yours and thousands such as you, living abroad of our compatriots, are fully used. Knowing that there is both a desire and necessary potential in making contribution to the process taking place in our country in your hearts and soul, I believe that we still have much to do in this direction, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Today, new approaches are needed to achieve high results in systemic changes in Uzbekistan. I want to emphasize that I am ready to work with modern thinking people who are deeply aware of the goal of reforms we are implementing.
